IPLLA/IICC  Member Legislative Update - January 9, 2016

As we noted at our Winter Workshop, the Indiana Professional Lawn & Landscape Association (IPLLA) and the Indiana Irrigation Contractors Association (IICC) is beginning a series of periodic updates on legislative and regulatory affairs for our Member firms.  This is the first such effort and this update is being sent to our entire e-mail data base, including both members and non-members of IPLLA/IICC.  Once we have established the format and timing of these Legislative Updates, then the updates will be sent to Members only as a member service.

We would urge you to take advantage of this service by joining or renewing your IPLLA/IICC membership online at iplla.com.  Members are also eligible for reduced attendance rates at all upcoming educational events in 2016.

As many of you know, the IPLLA and IICC are full members in the Green Industry Alliance which represents our industry in statewide legislative affairs affecting our industry.  As such, the Green Industry Alliance employs the services of The Corydon Group, a government affairs firm which specializes in conducting our ongoing involvement in such matters.

The past Tuesday, the Indiana General Assembly convened to begin what is the second half of their session.  This 2016 session is known as a “short session” meaning that both the Senate and House will be in session until March 1st.  While this is a short session, it also means that a lot of proposed bills will be considered in a relatively short period of time before state law requires the legislature to adjourn.  It must also be noted that this is an election year so political matters also play a significant role in what will be consider by this group as well as the Governor’s office.

Each Friday, IPLLA and IICC receive a weekly summary of activities in both the Indiana House and Senate.  These summaries are designed to include information pertinent to our green industry businesses whether they are lawn & tree care, irrigation, snow removal, landscaping,
grounds management, or more.  The summaries also address business related issues such as tax matters, insurance, and other issues..

We hope you enjoy these updates and please look forward to the next update set to be sent on January 16th.
